Description:

Within BlackRock, the Institutional Client Business (ICB) is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with sophisticated institutional investors. Within US & Canada ICB, the Client Insight Unit (CIU) is a newly formed team tasked with creating analytic content to drive deeper and more effective sales dialogue with pensions, endowments and foundations, and family offices. CIU will partner closely with the Client Solutions team within BlackRock Solutions (BRS) to leverage BRS’s analytical capabilities to deliver our value proposition of providing innovative solutions to issues facing clients and prospects.

Role:

The CIU head will be responsible for building and developing a team to provide the services described below. This individual will need to personally drive analytical content and contribute to business strategy, while also growing and developing a team to do the same. He/she, as well as his/her team, will both directly deliver content to clients, as well as train and teach RMs to deliver content themselves. The role will require close partnership with stakeholders in ICB (relationships managers, senior leadership) as well as BRS and Client Solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead creation of content to help ICB to elevate client dialogue, embed BLK as a trusted advisor, and identify actionable commercial opportunities

  • Design and deliver segment-specific analysis and thought leadership (e.g. peer risk studies for corporate and public pension funds)

  • Utilize existing firm portfolio analytics tools and portfolio construction best practices to position focus products in a portfolio context

  • Design an evolving suite of client analytics to advance individual sales processes, such as asset allocation, LDI analysis, review of factor exposures, what/if analyses

  • Support and train RMs to deliver this content, including direct client interaction where appropriate

  • Develop processes and checks to ensure analysis comes together in a timely and accurate fashion

  • Leveraging the work on these client analytics, develop strategies to enhance returns, support asset/liability initiatives, or manage or hedge portfolio risk, to name a few. This will include working with Relationship Managers on the conceptual phase and leveraging BRS PAG and Client Solutions Strategy on the analytical phase

  • Develop insights to better focus and drive ICB sales activity

  • Work with ICB to target sales activity using client portfolio and liability data (e.g. funded status) to identify high priority prospects and target conversations to these clients’ unique investment needs

  • Transfer knowledge:

  • Pass on broad knowledge of industry trends and market activity to Relationship Managers to allow them to have deeper conversations with clients and prospects

  • Deliver above analysis but also train ICB RMs to ‘self-serve’ where appropriate

  • Act as “air traffic control” to help relationship managers identify the most appropriate resource within BlackRock to handle client’s complex portfolio construction inquiry

Skills and Qualifications - Ideal candidates will possess the following:

  • 12-15 years relevant financial services experience

  • Deep understanding of global capital markets

  • Proven analytical and critical thinking skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to communicate and present to C-level executives

  • Ability to deliver solutions-oriented analytics to sophisticated client base

  • Proficiency with Excel / familiarity with BRS/Aladdin (PortfolioRiskTools)

  • Ability to self-lead and multi-task in a fast paced environment

  • Deep knowledge of institutional investor trends

  • CFA designation preferred
